The critical infrastructure upgrade saw the migration of Hume Bank's existing end-of-life on-site HP-UX servers, to state-of-the-art IBM p-Series servers self-hosted in a new Equinix ‘data centre cluster’ in Sydney. The new servers, along with high-speed networking and storage, will help future proof the bank.
The Sydney based Equinix Managed Data Centres, were chosen based on Hume Banks’ outsourcing selection criteria; reducing risk, improving compliance, uplifting critical infrastructure performance, reducing costs and operational inefficiencies with the overarching goal of returning the benefits to Hume Bank members.
Equally important to the success of the project was to find a core banking software solution partner that possessed the subject matter expertise and hands on experience in the right technical spheres to support the migration project in its entirety.
Additionally, from past projects (albeit smaller in size) and a lengthy professional history, the united project teams were well equipped with established working relationships that would help with a harmonious working environment, and deliver effectiveness throughout the process.
As a result of this collaborative project, Hume Bank is now in a strategic position to execute their digital transformation objectives, with their first objective of upgrading their core banking system from Ultracs 5.0 to Ultracs 5.1 well underway.
This upgrade will see Hume Bank unlock and utilise all the new functionality available with the 5.1 release and improve Hume’s banking processes, and provide Hume Bank members a more effective, streamlined and efficient service that will resonate and drive ‘ease of use and convenience’ across all the service touch points.
Following the Ultracs 5.1 upgrade, and early in the discovery phase, Hume Bank plans on upgrading to My Viewpoint 3, and is in the process of reviewing other possible digital banking improvements.
We wish to thank Hume Bank for the trust they bestowed in us once again, and for the opportunity to collaborate as part of Hume Banks’ historical and major milestone.
“The collaboration and unified purpose of Ultradata and Hume on this project was instrumental to a smooth transition to our new infrastructure and data centres. We are now utilising modern underlying technologies and are in position to unlock the latest digital banking technology to improve the customer experience and grow the bank.”
Warren Nugara, Chief Technology Officer, Hume Bank
“This project was far and away one of the most challenging and interesting that I have worked on. With Ultradata at our side we took on a complex migration, replacing our entire core banking platform, including all online channels to produce a result that will benefit Hume Bank and its customers for years to come. The project has reduced our risk profile, increased our capacity, increased the speed of online channels and freed up operational staff for new existing projects, like the Ultracs 5.1 and MVP3 upgrades.”
